Mantra
I could not decide between the two mantras I have created, so I have decided to list them both.
Mantra 1: Technology is the fingerprint of man’s collective consciousness.
When I was thinking about technology and its role; I thought about the significance of birds making nest, ants working on their anthill, and apes using simple tools. What makes our tools special to us and how has it shaped our lives through the ages? My mantra relating technology to our fingerprint is something that is unique to our species and encompasses our collective memory on the tools that we use.
Mantra 2: Technology and magic are indistinguishable; in that they both leave the viewer in awe of the spectacle.
In addition, I thought about how technology would look to someone else observing the human species, or if I could travel back in time with the technology of the future. On one hand, technology would appear magical to outside observers or people observing from the past. On the other hand, technology’s magical power relies not on the spectacle of the performance, but the awe happens primarily because we do not fully understand how the trick or illusion is being carried out. In other words, each individual does not fully grasp the entire process of the tool that is being used. Specialization in modern technology has left each of us stumped on the creation of the whole entire technological tool, when we only have a partial understanding of it. Moreover, we do not need to fully understand our tool in order to use it. And lastly, our tools carry magical weight in such a way that we tend to idolize and worship the technological convenience. For example, many of my friends would feel naked if they lost their phones. They describe their phone as a real extension of themselves. They describe feelings of withdrawal, anxiety, and loss of identity. Likewise, I tend to feel the same way when I do not have my phone for more than two weeks.
